Mock Interview!

Mock interview in my school was literally just a drill for my friends and I as to prepare ourselves for the real one in our future. From my point of view, I think it is super good to have one in school as practice to give us the feeling of anxiety and extra nervousness when dealing with interviewers.

Preparing for my mock interview

First and foremost, of course, I made my checklist. Here's the list of documents I prepared:-
  1. A resume (maximum 2 pages)
  2. Academic certificates
  3. Co-curriculum certificates
  4. Semester exams results
I prepared a clear file holder and the resume comes first followed by my semester exams results and certificates. (Certificates was arranged according to latest ones and biggest achievements)

Next, I wrote down simple points of what I was going to say on the big day, avoiding making any full sentences as I know anyone would sound scripted if they do so. Duh

The big day

My heart was beating so so so fast the morning of the interview; thinking how my performance will turn out and it scared the hell out of me 👻😕

First, we had a group interview and wow, I was shocked at how fast it went. It's kind of funny come to think of it as we all had to answer literally the same question. There were two identical questions. I can't remember the other question but it is very similar to the other one.

"List three things that you don't like about a leader"

I just blurted out what was on my mind that time but it wasn't so bad (I guess). The point is the interviewer wasn't focusing on our answers but more to our confidence and English fluency. The next thing I know, the group interview was over. Thank god!

We had a break before our individual assessment and yeah it's the highlight of this entry!

A student in charge called my name and I went in with my clear file. Of course, I gave the interviewer my greetings and he told me to have a seat. Some question I remembered him asking was:-

"Tell me about yourself."

"What's your parents' occupation?"

"Why PETRONAS?" - this is literally the hardest question because I really don't know why I wrote 'applying for PETRONAS scholarship' on my resume when I want to become an architectural engineer  😅

And one time he was like
"Hurm, architectural engineer?"(well it wasn't my ambition actually)

"What do you do if, in the future, you get your dream job, opened your own company, got married and your husband asks you to quit your job?" (this one is a killer)

"Do you know which company will employ you in the future?" (I answered with honesty- I'm sorry I don't but I promise to make a research on it after this)

That is pretty much it and I think it went quite well than what I was expecting.

What I learned that day.

1. I need to bring along a small notebook with me during the interview.

2. I need to give eye contact to everyone present in the room (there was one woman in the room and she sat like 2 meters away but still!)

3. I should not easily change my course of choice even when I am offered a great one.

4. I should not quit easily even when my future husband told me to do so because the interviewer said that the world will lose a talent.

5. I should always thank the interviewers after the session.

6. Ask questions at the end of the session because it is one in a lifetime chance!

To sum it all up, it was a great experience for me and I learned a lot thanks to the interviewer (sorry I forgot his name but he's from a big company). I am blessed to have been given the chance to go through all of this together with my friends. Thank you, teachers, for making it happen!

P/s: I hope this entry can help you guys in any positive way and thanks for reading 😏
