Jcorp Interview Part I

JCorp Part I - Group Dynamics

Yes, I am finally posting this. At last!

Well, I don't really know how to start this one. Do I really need to be detailed about the whole experience? Maybe a deep but not too thorough share this time, I guess.

Overall, it was meh, okay. All I can say is Alhamdulillah for the whole experience.

First thing in the morning, candidates were lined to get two nametags (made out of stickers); one for us to wear and the other for our handphones. Yup, they collected our phones and kept it until lunch. because basically, they do not want us to be google-ing stuff during the whole process.

Group assessment was up first. We were divided into groups of 8 and were sent to our respective room after a brief introduction by the organizer. In my group, there were 4 boys and 4 girls; 2 Chinese and others, of course, Malay.

The first group assessment was to decide 3 survivors that would be saved out of I don't exactly remember (maybe 12 or 10 people). The task was simple and as far as I know, there were no correct or wrong answers but you need to come out with strong reasons why you chose to sacrifice/save them.

Some of the characters were a student, scientist, doctor, married couple that is addicted to drugs, a pregnant woman with a child, priest, and many more interesting ones.

The second group assessment was to rank 12 items from the most to the least important where the situation was after an airplane crash and there was a nearby town 35km away. A lighter without liquid, a ball of steel wool, some family-sized chocolate bars, an air map, a compass and extra clothes were the items I could recall.

After discussing, we presented to the panel our final decision for both cases. My group assigned each and every one of the members a character to play for the first assessment so that everyone would have something to say.

Overall, I think our presentation was great and everybody took part in sharing ideas as well as presenting clearly to the panel. Thank god 😄

We continued our third assessment after a short break which was to build a tower using straws, masking tapes, and paperclips.

And the most awesome part about it having to be able to withstand a free dropping golf ball, harsh wind and at the same time being tall is that each item that we use costs imaginary dollar bills.

So, we were needed to build a strong and tall but at the same time, cheap tower.

We made a hexagon base for our tower pyramids for the middle part and an open square as the top. (It was not too tall but I can assure you, it's the strongest straw tower you would have ever encounter in life)

Our trick was poking through the straws using paperclips and that made our tower more firm and far from being easily collapsed.

After that, we were required to present our tower to the judge where it was tested using the golf ball.

What I learned that day:

1. You always need to assign a leader in every situation (our group was given warning twice for not having one)

2. Teamwork is the backbone of success in a group works.

3. Never to leave a person behind in any task

4. Planning is important (we were asked why we didn't stick to our first plan when building the tower)

Overall it was a great experience for me to be working with awesome people who were not only smart but kind and helpful at the same time.

But what's even better was what came after that. Lunch time!
